Our approach is based on four pillars: Environment, Economic, Social, and Governance.
Our community-based approach to working with coastal ecosystems creates a virtuous circle where everyone – including the natural environment - benefits.
HOW WE WORK.
Our four-pillar approach and 6-step program are essential to building local capacity, ensuring tenure security, and building confidence for communities and fisheries management. This approach has influenced other coastal communities and gained momentum throughout Kenya and the Western Indian Ocean.

ENVIRONMENT
Most coastal communities are dependent on nature. Oceans Alive uses nature-based solutions which promote Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM)
SOCIAL
The health of a community is deeply connected with the environment they live in. We take a holistic approach to community well-being and resilience, focusing on improved community health, livelihoods, and food security
ECONOMICAL
We run awareness and training programs to educate and stress the importance of community engagement in coastal resource management and the link to improved livelihoods. We do this by showing case the success of Kuruwitu and peer-to-peer learning
GOVERNANCE
Good governance is a blueprint for the successful management of any organisation. In the community conservation sphere, however, it often needs to be improved. It's important to establish transparent governance to support sustainable growth
