Who we are

Our team has decades of experience in community-based management of marine resources in East Africa. We work closely with coastal communities in Kenya to:

  • safeguard biodiversity

  • ensure the sustainability of marine ecosystems

  • protect fisheries and coral reefs

  • secure and improve livelihoods

  • champion the rights of small-scale fishers and their families

We are a passionate, action-driven team who work relentlessly to create real impact and tangible change for good.

What we do

We create, share, and support collaborative-management initiatives by working together with communities, stakeholders and partners.

We are creating a model co-managed area in Kuruwitu by implementing all the components needed. This includes coral restoration, climate smart kitchen gardens and community education and capacity building. We aim to create a sustainable financing model for co-managed areas.

We scale our model through education programs for:

·      school children

·      youth

·      students

·      interns

·      international students

·      coastal communities

KING'S VISIT

We were delighted to have welcomed

His Majesty King Charles III to Kuruwitu on 3rd November to tour some of our projects. His Majesty walked through our demonstration garden and then launched a coral restoration block bearing his cypher. The King expressed his belief in the importance of marine protected areas and community-led conservation.

COMMUNITY CONSERVATION

We have seen the value and profound impact of peer-to-peer exchange. This is one of the approaches we use to empower and strengthen coastal communities to:

  • overcome adverse effects of climate change

  • restore the environment

  • improve depleted fish stocks

  • minimise the impact of development projects

  • create resilience in the face of an uncertain world

  • understand and protect the rights of fishers

  • effectively manage a sustainable fishery
